It’s December...in Japan, there is a custom of cleaning up at the end of the year, the reason is to get rid of dirt of the year and get ready to welcome a new year with fresh feelings.

In the garden, my relatives helped me to cut the trees and mow the lawn.
Some Autumn leaves changed their color, and “Nanten”, or Sacred Bamboos bears a lot of red berries, adding beautiful accents to the simple garden.
I suppose it will be the best weekend to see Autumn leaves around Kumano area. 😉

To welcome a new year, we also started the maintenance of the house.
In Maki-no-ma private room, the borders of the old Tatami mattress has been damaged, so I requested the Tatami master to change the borders with new cloths.

It is said that the colors and patterns of the cloths depended on the status of the family in old days, but now, of course we can choose our favorite colors and patterns.
The original cloths were blue, I chose yellow according to other rooms, after all Tatami were spread, I found it was the right choice, it looks more clean and larger than the original room. 😉
