Our regular guest. This time, he stayed Konichi-an with his colleagues, and had a private squid fishing tournament.
On the 2nd day, they invited me to their "Yaen fishing", and it was so exciting!
"Yaen fishing", is kind of a traditional method of squid fishing, by using a live bait and a fishhook named "Yaen".
It is said to originate in the Southern part of Kii Peninsula, and many angler enjoys this "Yaen fishing" in and around
Shirahama.
We bought some horse mackerels for the live bait, and started fishing.
We got a series of bites but squids just ate horse mackerels...but finally, the guest caught a nice size squid, over 1.5
kilograms!
In the end, I could not catch a squid, but it was a nice and warm day, I felt great to try fishing while listening the sound of
the waves!

紀南地方が発祥といわれる、アオリイカ釣り技法「ヤエン釣り」を実践しているゲストさんたち。
「ヤエン釣り」とは、活き餌を泳がせてイカを誘い、イカが餌に抱きつくと、釣り糸に掛け針のついた針金「ヤエン」を掛けて水中へ滑らし、イカを引っ掛けて釣り上げる釣法のことで、紀南地方では多くの釣り人がこのヤエン釣りを楽しんでいるそうです。
餌の活きアジを入手して、絶好の釣り日和のなか、いざ大会開始！
ゲストさんが丁寧に教えてくださって、私も見よう見まねで参戦。
アタリがあってもアジだけかじられて逃げられ…というパターンが続きましたが、昼過ぎになって、ゲストさんが1.5kgオーバーのアオリイカをゲット！
タバコの箱と並べたら、大きさがよく分かるでしょうか？
お邪魔ばかりしてしまった私は、ボウズのまま途中退場しましたが、ぽかぽか陽気のなか、潮騒を聞きながらのんびりとアタリを待つ時間は、とっても気持ちよかったです！その後、辺りがすっかり暗くなってからも粘り続けたゲストさんたちは何匹も釣り上げたそうですよ〜！
自然と戯れて、すっかりリフレッシュした一日♪
