Maki-no-ma

Maki-no-ma is a quiet, secluded room.
Here you will find a big, sliding glass door that fills the room with natural light and faces a Japanese garden.

The Buddhist pine tree, which in Japanese is called "maki (槙)", is the symbolic tree of ZEN Guesthouse Konichi-an.

From this room, you can see a stately maki tree outside the window.

For renovations, we are committed to using natural materials.

The ceiling is solid wood, lined with local Ryujin cedar that has been coated with bengal (red iron oxide) and fermented persimmon juice.

The walls have been finished with 100% all-natural plaster.

At night, ambient lighting gives this room a sophisticated and relaxing atmosphere.

Take it easy and make yourself at home.

Take-no-ma

The lovely Take-no-ma Room still holds the charm of 70 years ago.
You can experience the good old days, since this room has gone without any major renovations and only small, specific repairs.

Since this room is near the common spaces, including the engawa (garden-side veranda) and the dining room, if other guests are staying over, you may be able to hear their voices until lights-out.

If this is a concern, we recommend the private room, Maki-no-ma, or the "Whole House Rental".

■ When you arrive, we ask that a representative please show personal identification and verify the name of the guest(s) on the reservation. We also ask that this person sign the guesthouse register.
■Payment is requested when you check-in. We ask that you please use cash(Japanese Yen only). Credit cards will not be accepted at this time.
■ Our guesthouse is an old Japanese home. The sound of footsteps can be heard throughout the building. Also, since each room is fitted with fusuma and shoji (both are thin, sliding doors), noise such as talking from neighboring rooms can also be heard. We ask that you please be respectful of the other guests.
■We belong to a quiet, residential area. We ask that you please be considerate of the local townspeople, especially during the late hours of night and early hours of the morning.
■ If you come by car, please note that the number of parking spaces at the guesthouse is limited. So as not to disturb the peace of the neighborhood, we ask that you do not allow your car to idle. Please immediately turn off your engine. We would also greatly appreciate it if you refrain from speaking with loud voices and making a lot of noise.

■ The guesthouse is located in an area surrounded by nature. We would like you to know that we spend great care on pest control. Be that as it may, geographical factors (being in the countryside) combined with our guesthouse being an old house with gaps in the walls and so on, it is unavoidable that at least some insects will enter the property. Thank you in advance for understanding.
■Toothbrushes and towels are not included in the price. We have toothbrushes for sale (50 yen) and towels for rent (100 yen), so please ask us if you are interested in these items.
We do not provide yukata bathrobes. Thank you for understanding.

■ While our guesthouse facility has no bathtub, Shirahama is famous for its onsen (hot spring public baths) and we encourage you to visit them.

■ Please eat and drink in the common spaces. Please refrain from doing so in your individual room.
■ So that all the guests can enjoy the common space, please refrain from moving the common space belongings into your individual room.
■ There is no television or telephone in the room.
■ Please cooperate by conserving electricity and sorting your own trash (by local law, you must separate your trash into its proper recyclable category, such as glass, paper, and plastic).
* If you forget to turn off the lights or air conditioner after leaving, we will enter your room and shut them off.
■ For those who drink alcohol at the guesthouse, please be responsible and do not drive.

Any guest that is found to be a nuisance to either the local townspeople and/or other guests, at our discretion we may ask you to leave the guesthouse.

If this is the case, please understand that we will not return the accommodation fee.

Thank you for understanding.
